Dr Lewis Holford

Topic: "Introduction to the Faculty of Pain Medicine Procedural Endorsement Program"

Dr Lewis Holford is an Interventional Pain Medicine Specialist and Director of the Northern Pain Centre. He specialises in minimally invasive interventions as a component of a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of persistent pain with the goal of relieving pain and improving function and quality of life.

Dr Holford has over 20 years experience in Interventional Pain Medicine with expertise in the use of spinal cord stimulation and a comprehensive range of radiofrequency procedures and image guided injections in the treatment of pain conditions including:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Pain after spine surgery
  • Neuropathic pain
  • Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS)
  • Shoulder pain
  • Knee and hip pain




A/Prof Mick Vagg

Guest Speaker, Director of Professional Affairs, FPM

Associate Professor Michael Vagg is a specialist pain medicine physician and a rehabilitation physician. He graduated from Monash University in 1994 and spent several years as a uniformed medical officer in the Royal Australian Air Force before undertaking vocational training.

He is a director of Pain Matrix, a private comprehensive pain service in Geelong, clinical director of rehabilitation and pain services at Epworth Geelong and a clinical senior lecturer at Deakin University Medical School. 

He writes regularly for The Conversation as a health and medicine columnist. His areas of clinical interest include soft tissue pain, postamputation pain and interventional pain treatments. 





Dr Alan Nazha

Dr Alan Nazha is a dual qualified Anaesthetist and Specialist Pain Physician. He completed his anaesthetic training at Royal North Shore Hospital in 2011 and underwent further subspecialty training in Pain Medicine at Royal North Shore Hospital, Concord Hospital and Hunter Pain Clinic. Awarded a merit in pain medicine fellowship examinations he went on further to qualify for Fellowship in Interventional Pain Practice.

Dr Nazha works exclusively in private practice and is the co-founder and director of Sydney Pain Specialists. He has private hospital appointments at The Sydney Adventist Hospital, Norwest Private Hospital, The Northern Beaches Hospital and The Mater Hospital. Dr Nazha has a special interest in the utilisation of Peripheral Nerve Stimulation in the treatment of persistent post-surgical pain, neuropathic pain, CRPS.
